Synopsis (book cover):
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
My Thoughts (spoiler free):
The Hunger Games is the first novel in a trilogy written by the bestselling author of The Underland Chronicles, Suzanne Collins.
This book will keep you enthralled the whole time with Suzanne Collin's fast-paced, suspense filled plot, and memorable characters. Katniss, the narrator of this tale, is easily an outstanding character living in a future world of hard times, and takes control of her life by doing what has to be done in order to stay alive. This book is well written in a way that the words fall away, and you're left in the middle of this battle between life and death. The depiction of the world Collin's has created is believable and realistic of what our world could become. I was captivated and mesmerized by the intensiveness of the plot, and fueled by all her characters. Once you get started on this tale there will be no turning back, so be prepared to lose all sense of time.
This is the best Young adult book I've read to date. Strong characters, great action, crazy plot twists that will keep you at the edge of your seat. When you get to the end you'll be anxiously awaiting the next book "Catching Fire," out September 1st, to this extreme trilogy. I highly recommend!
(This is my first attempt at a book review, so any and all feedback would be great! Thanks!)

23 Witty Remarks!:
Great review! I have this one on my wishlist. It certainly does look really good. I think for your first review you've done a great job. It's certainly nice to see an actual review instead of just a synopsis of the book (which I find a lot when I'm blog hopping)
I keep hearing so many great things about this book...I am going to have to read it!
Great Review Krista. One of these days I will get to this one as well.
Sounds interesting. Of course, my mind immediately went to Stephen King's book The Running Man - the book, not the movie. The movie didn't resemble the book in the least. Anyway, sounds similar. Never been much for young adult books (other than The Hobbit, of course), but I may check it out if I see it somewhere...
Thanks for the review. Good work.
Hi Krista,
I followed you over here from book blogs... this is a great review. I've heard so many great things about it! I think I'll definitely have to read it soon.
Hey Krista Great review!
You had me hooked to try this book out over at B&Ns site. Now, I really have to find time to get to it. I think maybe next year we will slow back down to one big book a month and then we can get other books in through out the month with it. What do you think? So many books and just not enough time in a day...
David, I've never read The Running Man before, however, Stephen King did say "He couldn't stop reading!" The Hunger Games....
Ryan, I think I've been trying to get you to read this book forever...LOL! But alas, I know how tough that TBR pile can be!
Jenny, glad to have you as a follower!
Thanks everyone for stopping by and commenting! The Hunger Games is definitely worth reading!
Mel, yeah I totally agree to slow down a bit and have time to get to our TBR pile a little! Thanks!
Hey Krista,
Let me be the first to say, The Hunger Games was a great recommendation! All you bloggers out there she speaks the truth, this book is a must read, one that should be elevated to the top of every TBR pile. With its enticing plot, suspense-filled climax, and dynamic characters, this book engages the reader early on and holds tightly to the reins long after the book is done. This book is definitely at the top of my list of favorite young adult books and I am literally counting down the days until the second book, Catching Fire. Thanks Krista, you gave an amazing review and I look forward to reading your next recommendation!
Great review Krista! I need to get on this one before #2 comes out!!
